Alexander Keith's Tankard
1981 - ...
In 1980 the Labatt Brewery Company became the new national sponsor of the BRIER and they also sponsored all provincial playdowns except our own province. Beginning in 1981 this company began sponsoring our N.B. Men's Championship when the Preliminary and D.K.O. were hosted by the Fredericton Curling Club.
A very smooth transition thus took place between our long time former sponsor and Labatts. Our provincial winners now wear the famous "purple hearts" signifying Brier representatives. The list of winning teams since the year 1927 to 1993 is a real "who's who" in our provincial curling Association. A number of curlers have illustrated their above average skill by being on more than one year's winning team.
One year, perhaps not too far hence, a New Brunswick team with the ideal balance between skill and dedication will win the Canadian Curling Championship, the Brier, and go on to the World Curling Championship. When that day arrives, it will be a time of great celebration for all curlers in our province. It will also be a silent tribute to all those former teams who so ably represented our curling Association since the very beginning.
